Alghero (SS)

It is also known as the Sardinian Barceloneta, the city has in fact preserved the use of Catalan, and 22.4% of its inhabitants speak it in the Algherese variant, recognized by the Italian Republic and by the Sardinia Region as a minority language.

A delegation of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the regional government of Catalonia, also has its headquarters in Alghero.

Fifth Sardinian city by inhabitants (44 thousand), Alghero, thanks to the Fertilia airport, is one of the main centers of access to the island, besides being one of its most loved places, thanks to a magnificent historic center, to the ramparts on which see exciting sunsets and the splendid nature of the coasts and beaches overlooking an emerald sea.

Its coastline of about 9 kilometers is called Riviera del Corallo, a name that derives from the fact that in the waters of its harbor there is the largest quantity of the precious red coral of the most valuable quality, fished by underwater corals, an activity that with the processing and the sale, for centuries has had a great importance of economic and cultural character, so that a coral branch is inserted in the emblem of the city.

Among the most famous beaches, Le Bombarde and Il Lazzareto deserve a mention, with transparent waters, sandy bottoms and crystal clear waters

A little further away, inside the bay of Porto Conte, is the beach of Mugoni, while in the middle of the city, there is the splendid Lido di San Giovanni, which continues with the sand dunes covered with centuries-old juniper trees by Maria Pia.
