Assemini (AFI: Assemini in Sardinia) is an Italian city located in the metropolitan city of Cagliari in Sardinia
It is classified according to tourist standards as " a country with an ancient ceramic tradition "
The city is located on the plain of the Cixerri river, on the Flumini Mannu river and on the Sa Nuxedda river, north of Lake Santa Gilla
The municipal territory is mainly composed of pristine forests immersed in the suggestive valley of the Gutturu Mannu (Sardinian term for "large gorge"), which in turn is part of the Sulcis Park: the region is an object of natural interest
Natural habitat of species such as the Sardinian deer and golden eagle, as well as archaeological sites due to the discovery of numerous Roman discoveries that suggest the existence of an oppidum
Having identified a road along the still visible Flumini Mannu, it is also assumed that the old center had relations with the Punic port of Nora, the origin of the name of the municipality remains uncertain and extremely controversial
Although several hypotheses have been made, today the Sardinian Carta thesis prevails, built in 1589 by the Flemish geographer and cartographer Mercatore: there is a "Muni Arx", that is a "fortified city"; the nomination would progressively change to "Ass Muni" and then to "Arsemini"
The numerous discoveries of the prehistoric and nuragic era testify to the fact that the territory was already inhabited by man in prehistory
It was a city that probably already existed in the Carthaginian and certainly Roman era
In the Middle Ages, it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari and was part of the curator of Campidano off Cagliari
