Carloforte is the only architectural settlement on the small and secluded island of San Pietro in the south-west of Sardinia.
The characteristic center of the island with its narrow, winding streets, impressive views of the sea and fascinating historic architecture captivates visitors.
The coast of the island, indented in fantastic bays, hides some splendid beaches including Girin beach and Giunco beach.
Also interesting is a visit to Capo Sandalo to see the iconic lighthouse of 1864, from which to admire a panorama and a breathtaking sunset.
Carloforte, with its salt pans, is one of the few places in Italy where you can admire the pink flamingos in their natural habitat.
Carloforte is also an honorary municipality of the metropolitan city of Genoa. Also known as U pàize, it is a Ligurian enclave in Sardinia: it preserves the language and culture of the founders, the fishing families originating from Pegli, and coming from the Tunisian island of Tabarka (where they resided since the 16th century). The Tabarchini in 1738 obtained permission from King Carlo Emanuele III to colonize the island.
Island that was frequented by man since the prenuragic and nuragic period as evidenced by the presence of domus de janas and nuraghi.
