Tergu, in the north of Sardinia a few km from the coast and de Castelsardo, is an agricultural village of about 600 inhabitants consisting of a small central nucleus and various houses that dot a fertile basin
He shares the rite of Lunissanti with Castelsardo, which is just 10km away, a procession on the Monday before Easter in which brotherhoods and faithful follow the road that connects the two villages, starting from Santa Maria degli angeli di Castelsardo, passing through Lu Bagnu and arriving at Our Lady of Tergu illuminated by lit torches
The church, built in the second half of the 11th century by the Giudicale family of Torres, was enlarged in the following century when it became a Benedictine abbey
The complex was one of the most important in Sardinia: a dozen monasteries depended directly on the abbey of Tergu, the Romanesque origin has been revisited by various restorations, in a millennium of life receiving various changes, different styles, Gothic to Baroque
Since there is no information on a town at the time, it is assumed that it was created little by little by serving the abbey, in fact, throughout the Middle Ages, the history of the abbey and the village are identified
In the surrounding countryside you can see about fifteen nuraghes in addition to the megalithic fortification of Mount Elias, also frequented in Roman times
