Castelsardo (SS)

Castelsardo is located on the north coast of Sardinia, in the province of Sassari, on a promontory that is reflected in the Gulf of Asinara

The village, a splendid jewel of medieval origin, will surprise you with its architectural and naturalistic beauties

Founded by the Genoese family of the Doria family in 1270, they then spent almost 3 centuries under Spanish domination

Today it preserves intact all the charm of its past with the Castello dei Doria which dominates the village (open all year round) and which dominates the subsubstantial coast with a fantastic view of the sea and the village with low colored houses and narrow alleys.

In addition to the must-see at the castle, take a trip to the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio, from the 1500s, with the tower overlooking the sea and which houses the Maestro Museum of Castelsardo in the crypts

Visiting the historic center, with you will be able to enjoy fantastic views that will take you back over the centuries, you can see among others the ancient 12th century town hall, the Palazzo dei Doria and that of the Palazzo di Eleonora di Arborea

In addition to the architectural and historical beauties of the village, even the naturalistic ones will leave you speechless, along the road that connects Castelsardo to Sedini, you can see the curious Roccia dell'Elefante, a particular rock formation which is a symbol of the area

Even the beaches and coves of the surrounding coast are varied and wonderful, going from fine white sand to rocky coves where you can spend hours snorkeling

The best known beach is certainly "Lu Bagnu", protected by rocks dotted with Mediterranean vegetation and lapped by the crystalline waters of Sardinia
