Teulada (SU)

Teulada, with its approximately 4000 inhabitants is comfortably arranged in an amphitheater around the church of the Virgin of Carmelo, of seventeenth-century origin.

It is located between the southern coast of Sulcis-Iglesiente and the mountains of Sulcis.

Name dating back to the Roman "Tegula" that some archaeologists identify with the ruins located in the isthmus that connects Capo Teulada to the mainland, in an area subject to military constraints.

It was abandoned at the beginning of the Middle Ages, and was resurrected, already in modern times, in the locality of Sant’Isidoro to be

transferred, in the middle of the century. XVII at the behest of the feudal lord, in the current site, with a new name translated from the old one.

The rugged coastline of the municipality of Teulada alternates rocky promontories that plunge overhanging the sea to inlets where there are coves with white sand and crystal clear waters. The notable landscape and naturalistic interest are the pond of Malfatano, Capo Malfatano and Capo Teulada

The territory of Teulada has been frequented by man since the dawn of the nuragic era (Bonnanaro culture), as the many nuraghi scattered throughout the municipal territory and the remains of a fortification on the Isola Rossa seem to testify.

Among the most representative buildings of the town, the country church of Sant'Isidoro of the seventeenth century with the homonymous tower that stands where it was once located in the town should be noted.

Also of note is the small church of San Francesco, in the city center, dating back to the first half of the 18th century, and the church built in the mid-17th century of the Beata Vergine del Carmelo (see Crammu in Campidanese Sardinian) patron saint of the town.
