Ales (Abas in Sardinian) is a town in the province of Oristano in Sardinia, in the historic region of Marmilla, on the border between Campidano di Cagliari and Oristanese.
A splendid village with a civil and religious history that still leaves traces, is one of Italy's smallest bishoprics.
Antonio Gramsci was born in Ales, he was one of the founders of the Communist Party of Italy in 1921 following the Livorno congress as well as being one of the most influential politicians and intellectuals of the twentieth century in Europe.
Its territory is rich in archaeological traces, from prehistory with the presence of rich and precious obsidian deposits and various nuraghi, at the time of the Roman domination with the foundation, in 62 AD, of the colony of Uselis.
