Abbasanta in Italian means "holy water", is an Italian town of just over 2500 inhabitants in the province of Oristano in Sardinia.
It is about 30 km from the provincial capital, in the historic Guilcer region.
The nearest towns are Norbello, Paulilatino and Santu Lussurgiu.
The municipal area is generally flat with some hills reaching 400 meters of altitude in an area rich in springs
The ancient human activity is witnessed by dolmens, tombs of giants and sacred wells found in the countryside that was inhabited since the Nuragic era.
In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and was part of the Guilciber curatoria.
At the fall of the giudicato in 1420 it passed under the Aragonese dominion, and was incorporated into the Incontrada of Parte Ocier Reale.
Later it was together with Paulilatino a royal fiefdom, that is administered by officials of the Crown and not by feudal lords, and it finally began state property in 1838 to become a municipality administered by a mayor and a municipal council.
The Sardinian variant spoken in Abbasanta is the common Logudorese, with some typical local differences.
To date, the economy is based on small craftsmanship and agro-pastoral, with green areas strongly dedicated to cattle and sheep breeding.
Abbasanta is crossed by the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci railway line and is practically on the side of the SS 131, the main road of Sardinia which unites Sasssari and Cagliari.
