Gavoi, an agro-pastoral economy center in the province of Nuoro, is a beautiful village with granite houses, of the Barbagia type that give the town, arranged in an amphitheater on the slope of a wooded basin, a characteristic sign of environmental unity.
Located in the heart of the Barbagia di Ollolai, in a strategic position between Nuoro and the Gennargentu, it stands on the south-eastern side of a hill (Monte 'e su Sennore) facing the Pisanu Mele mountains, between woods and streams.
The presence of man in the territory has been attested since the Neolithic age, a period of which conspicuous traces remain such as the Sa Perda Longa menhir and the domus de janas of Uniai and Istelathe. In the Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC) the Nuragic civilization built several nuraghi and some tombs of the giants in the area.
A bridge remains from the Roman age, today submerged by the artificial lake of Gusana two kilometers from Gavoi, which enchants with its intense blue, especially in autumn and winter, ideal for canoeing and kayaking.
The typical products of the country are excellent, such as Sardinian flower cheese and sausages.
