Gonnesa nell'iglesiente is a village founded in 1774 by Viscount Gavino Asquer as a function of the agrarian transformation, and subsequently converted, thanks to its central position with respect to the metalliferous and carboniferous districts, in the center
mining.
Its name has been changed over time, from the first term Connesium, then replaced by Connese and Connesa, up to the current form. The name of the town probably refers to a pre-Latin base, Gon, with the meaning of hill, hill, mountain, and would indicate a place located between the hills.
The area was inhabited since the nuragic age is testified by the complex of Seruci and by the numerous other nuraghi scattered throughout the territory.
The splendid coastal stretch of Gonnesa is three kilometers long, bordered to the north by a mining village and to the south by an eighteenth-century trap.
The main beaches, transparent and with fine, very light sand, are Fontanamare, Spiaggia di Mezzo and Porto Paglia
