Built at the behest of the Judges of Cagliari between the 13th and 14th centuries when probably when the Giudicato of Cagliari was under the influence of Pisa, it was completely renovated in its current form (quadrangular, with four corner towers with battlements) during the 1300s. Privately owned (Villasanta family).

It was the scene of important historical events throughout the Giudicato period due to its position on the border between the Giudicato of Arborea and that of Cagliari.

In addition to the rooms with period furnishings, it houses the Duca d\\\'Aosta Risorgimental Museum, which preserves the flag of the Italian victory over Trieste and the original bulletin signed by General Diaz, several original relics from the First World War and a collection of wax plastics made between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries.
