San Giovanni Suergiu, a town in Sulcis in the province of South Sardinia, is an ancient center abandoned in the Middle Ages and then resurrected as "furriadroxiu".
The happy position, at the confluence of the roads coming from Iglèsias and Cagliari to Sant'Antioco, and the successful completion of the reclamation have facilitated its economic development.
Along the state road, which crosses the town, you can see via Garibaldi, just after the roadside
the crumbling structures of the Romanesque-Gothic church of S. Maria di Palmas, transformed into a sheepfold, are recognizable.
The Sangiovannese territory was already inhabited in the pre-Nuragic, Nuragic, Punic and Roman eras, as shown by various sites and finds found in the area.
Of particular interest are the domus de janas of Is Locci Santus, on the homonymous hill overlooking the lagoon.
